Women's Merino Jumpers

Women's merino jumpers are pullovers knitted from merino wool, cut for women and sized so they layer under a coat without bulk. This range narrows the wider women's merino offering to one garment type, so cardigans, vests, wraps and scarves in merino are listed elsewhere.

Superfine 18.5 micron in the house brand

House-brand merino knitwear is usually superfine 18.5 micron Australian merino, chosen for softness, warmth without weight, breathability and versatility. The fibre sits smooth against the skin. At that fineness the wool is soft rather than scratchy, which is what makes it easy to wear next to the skin. A house-brand merino jumper works on its own or as a layer under a coat.

Necklines across the range

Necklines across the range run to v-neck, crew, mock turtle and deep vee. A v-neck opens the front and works with a collared shirt underneath. Crew necks sit close and pair with a scarf. Mock turtle and deep vee cuts give different amounts of coverage at the neck. Ansett, Notting Hill and Rich & Royal all cut these necklines in fine gauge merino and in merino and cashmere blends.

Common questions

Is merino itchy against the skin?
Superfine 18.5 micron Australian merino, the wool used in the house brand, is soft and comfortable to wear. Most customers wear merino jumpers directly against the skin without trouble, and a merino and cashmere blend is softer again. Is merino wool itchy? takes the micron question in full.
How warm is a merino jumper compared with a heavier wool one?
A merino jumper in a finer fibre and a lighter knit has less weight than a heavier wool one. Medium weight wool carries more warmth and a more substantial knit. Merino suits layering under a coat, or wearing on its own in milder weather.
Can a merino jumper go in the washing machine?
Some merino jumpers on this page are machine washable and say so in the product title. The Woolmark Company advises that only a garment whose own care label permits it should be machine washed. A jumper without that label is not machine washable. The full wash method is covered in How to wash a wool or merino jumper.
